Australia for a month!
I feel like I have been a very lucky girl this year, going on a family holiday for a month to see my brother in Australia. It’s safe to say we had an amazing time and really tried to make the most of our first time in such a brilliant country. Here is a few of my favourite things we got up too!
1st week in Sydney
I spent the first week in Sydney right near Darling Harbour. Not a bad place to see every morning I must say! That’s where I found a place called Cyren Seafood that did the best gluten free carbonara pizza’s which I am obsessed with. I did a lot of walking around with the family, exploring the area and of course the shops. Although I was surprised at how pricey the clothing actually was. My brother was kind enough to be our tour guide for most of the holiday and took us around the city. Seeing the Sydney opera house was something to tick off the bucket list and just generally taking in the city which I’ve wanted to visit for so long.
2nd week in Cairns
I then flew to Cairns for a week in the Sun. For this pale English girl it was still very hot even if it is classed as their winter. We stayed about a 30 minute drive from the center of Cairns so we hired a car and that made things a lot easier. I loved the Daintree River crocodile and wildlife cruise the views were stunning and it was pretty surreal to see crocodiles in their natural habitat.
We did a pit stop to see the beautiful beach in Port Douglas. Kuranda Skyrail was amazing! It was about 1 hour 30 minutes long and you would have chance to get out and explore at certain points. Diving for the first time in the Great Barrier Reef with Reef Magic Cruises was the best. The whole day was a dream, glass bottom boat tours, snorkelling all day and the dive itself. We actually saw a turtle swimming around underneath us which is something I’ll never forget.
3rd week Melbourne and Adelaide
I then flew to Melbourne for 4 days. Melbourne is such a quirky city. The food there was out of this world and we made the most of trying different places. Belleville Chicken was a restaurant down a back alley and I was a bit sceptical at first. But I was definitely very wrong, the food their was incredible. I went to my first AFL match and I loved it I wish were had that in the UK.
After 4 days we drove on the Great ocean road to Apollo Bay. There was a lot of opportunities to stop and see some amazing sites. Even though it was raining we really made the most of seeing the views like The Twelves Apostles. We even saw a whale at one of the view points along the way! Apollo Bay is somewhere I would love to visit again in Summer as even with a bit of rain and wind the beach was still stunning. A long drive later we made it to Adelaide which was a lovely little city to visit for a day.
4th week in Sydney Manly
Manly was awesome! Another place I really want to visit in their Summer. Our hotel looked out onto the beach. And we were walking distance to the ferry to take us to the centre of Sydney. I loved finishing the week in such a beautiful relaxing place. During the last week we did The Sky Tower Tour which is such a great way to take in all the views of the city. We spent a day walking from Spit to Manly, this is quite a popular walk and I’m not surprised as you see so many amazing views. I had my birthday meal in the amazing restaurant Mr Wong. The food was exceptional and the service was equally as good. My brother surprised me with a delicious gluten free chocolate birthday cake. To finish the evening we watched the fire works outside the Sydney opera house. I definitely had a birthday I’ll never forget!
What an amazing experience to spend a month travelling with my family and we didn’t even manage to see half of the country…so I guess we’ll have to go again 🙂
